Open Enrollment 2027

Open Enrollment in Florida for 2027

Open Enrollment is the one window each year when anyone can buy or change an ACA plan. For 2027 coverage it runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027.

Updated October 24, 2026

The 2027 dates

There are two deadlines inside the window, and they decide when your coverage starts.

  • Enroll from November 1 to December 15, 2026 and coverage starts January 1, 2027.
  • Enroll from December 16, 2026 to January 15, 2027 and coverage starts February 1, 2027.
  • After January 15 you can only enroll with a Special Enrollment Period, which needs a qualifying life event.
  1. Open Enrollment opens
  2. Last day to pick a plan that starts January 1
  3. Open Enrollment ends. Plans picked from Dec 16 start February 1

After that you need a Special Enrollment Period (a life event like losing coverage, moving, marriage or a baby). Medicaid and Florida KidCare take applications any time.

What to do before December 15

If you want a plan on January 1, December 15 is the date that matters. Get these done before then:

  1. Update your 2027 income estimate. Your tax credit is based on what you expect to earn next year. A raise, a new client or retiring can change it a lot, especially near the 400% line.
  2. Check your doctors and drugs in the 2027 network. Networks and drug lists can change from one year to the next, even on the same plan.
  3. Compare more than one plan. Look at the 2027 premium after the credit, the deductible and the out-of-pocket maximum together.
  4. Pick a plan and pay the first premium. Coverage doesn't start until the insurance company gets your first payment.

You can do the first part in a couple of minutes on our quote form. It shows 2027 plans with your estimated credit already taken off, and you don't need an account or a phone number.

December 16 to January 15

Missed December 15? You can still enroll until January 15, and coverage starts February 1. If your old coverage ends December 31, that leaves you a month with no plan, so don't wait if you can help it.

If you already have a Marketplace plan, you can still switch during these weeks. The new plan starts February 1 and replaces the one you were automatically renewed into.

January 15 is the last day for anyone without a qualifying life event. After that, the next regular chance is Open Enrollment for 2028.

Renewing vs automatic re-enrollment

If you have a 2026 Marketplace plan and don't come back, the Marketplace will usually re-enroll you in the same plan, or a similar one if yours is discontinued. That keeps you covered. It doesn't mean you have the right plan or the right price.

Log in anyway, for these reasons:

  • Premiums change every year, and so does the benchmark plan your credit is based on. Your price after the credit can go up even if nothing in your life changed.
  • Your credit is only as good as the income on file. If your income changed and you didn't update it, you can owe money at tax time.
  • Your plan's network, deductible or drug list may be different in 2027.
  • A company that sold in your county in 2026 may not sell there in 2027, and new ones may arrive. The 2026 list for each area is on our county pages.

Updating your application and choosing your plan on purpose is the safer route. Licensed agents can go through it with you for free, and the chat answers in English or Spanish.

Documents to have ready

Having these on hand makes the application much faster. For most of it you type in the information. The Marketplace can ask for documents later to confirm what you entered.

  • Social Security numbers for everyone applying, and dates of birth for everyone in the household
  • Immigration documents for anyone who is lawfully present but not a citizen
  • Income details: recent pay stubs, W-2s or 1099s, your last tax return, or your best estimate of self-employment profit
  • Information about any job-based coverage offered to anyone in the household, even if nobody takes it
  • Your current plan's name if you're renewing, and any Marketplace notices you received
  • A list of your doctors, your hospital and your prescriptions, so you can check networks

If the Marketplace asks you to confirm income or immigration status after you enroll, send what it asks for by the deadline in the notice. Missing it can lower or end your tax credit.

If you're new to individual coverage

First time buying your own plan? Start with our Obamacare guide and the wider Florida health insurance overview. If you're leaving a job or retiring early, the early retiree page covers the years before Medicare, and families have their own page.

Fixed indemnity plans like UnitedHealthcare Health ProtectorGuard don't have an enrollment season, so you can apply any month. Keep in mind what they are. They pay set cash amounts, they have no out-of-pocket maximum, health questions apply and they aren't minimum essential coverage. Compare the two on our ACA vs fixed indemnity page before you decide.

Common questions

When is the last day to sign up for Obamacare in Florida for 2027?

January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15, 2026 if you want coverage to start January 1.

Do I have to re-enroll every year?

Not to stay covered, since the Marketplace usually re-enrolls you automatically. You should still update your income and compare plans, because prices and credits change every year.

Can I switch plans during Open Enrollment if I already have one?

Yes. Anyone can switch plans or insurance companies during Open Enrollment, and no life event is needed.

What if I miss Open Enrollment?

You'll need a Special Enrollment Period from a life event like losing coverage, moving or having a baby. Medicaid and Florida KidCare take applications any time.

Does Open Enrollment apply to fixed indemnity plans?

No. Fixed indemnity plans like HPG accept applications any month of the year, though health questions apply.
