Who buys their own coverage in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade runs on small businesses, service work and people who work for themselves. You might cook in a Brickell restaurant, clean hotel rooms on Miami Beach, frame houses in Homestead or run a one-person shop in Hialeah. Most of those jobs come with no health plan. For full coverage the Marketplace is the main road, and your tax credit depends on what your household expects to earn in 2027.

Many families here speak Spanish at home, and this page has a Spanish version. One hard spot: Florida did not expand Medicaid, so adults with income under the poverty line often get no tax credit and no Medicaid. Children under 19 may still qualify for Florida KidCare any time of year.

Most of those plans are HMOs, where you usually stay inside the plan's network and may need a referral for a specialist. Florida Blue was the only company here with PPO and POS plans, and Cigna also had EPO plans. Only Florida Blue offered Platinum, and only Wellpoint had a Catastrophic plan (under 30 or with a hardship exemption). The 2027 list can change, and your quote shows the current plans.

Jackson, Baptist, UHealth: check the network first

People in Miami-Dade ask about the same hospitals: Jackson Health System, Baptist Health South Florida, University of Miami Health System (UHealth), Mount Sinai Medical Center and, for kids, Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Networks differ from plan to plan, even inside one company, so we won't tell you a plan includes a hospital. Look up your hospital and doctors in each plan's directory, or ask a licensed agent to check with you for free.

ACA Marketplace

ACA prices depend on your income and age. Run the form to see your exact prices with your tax credit.

HPG is fixed indemnity insurance, and it is not full health insurance. It pays set amounts, for example $80 per doctor visit on Select 2000, whatever the bill turns out to be. It has no out-of-pocket maximum, it is not minimum essential coverage and it asks health questions. Read ACA vs fixed indemnity before you choose.

Miami-Dade ZIP codes

We have 81 Miami-Dade ZIP codes on file. A few near the county line also reach into a neighboring county. If yours does, the quote asks which county you live in, because plans are sold by county.
